Bar manager hits customer with pool cue

The Courtenay in Teignmouth

He's allowed to keep his job at the Devon bar

Neil Homan, supervisor of The Courtenay in Teignmouth, hit the customer with the cue after he flew into a rage after someone said that they didn’t like the pub he drunk in due to the price of the beer.

Mr Homan was given an official police caution for the incident and as a result concerns regarding his suitability as the designated premises supervisor of the pub on Teignmouth seafront were raised to Teignbridge District Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee.

CCTV footage of the incident, that took place at 10.55pm on February 4 2018, shows Mr Homan standing behind the bar involved in an argument with two customers. He's seen swinging a pool cue at one of them. The two other men then leave the premises.

Mr Homan said that what the footage didn’t show was the abuse on the night that the customer had given him. He said: “I didn’t mean to hit him with the pool cue. I was trying to snap him out of his rage but he came forward and by instinct I hit him. I am really sorry for doing it and won’t do it again.”
