Devon Girls Can returns for 2019

Active Devon relaunch campaign to get more women active

Devon Girls Can, powered by Active Devon, has inspired more than 1000 women and girls in the county to move more and feel great!

The campaign celebrates active women who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or even how sweaty they get.

Research shows that many women are put off taking part in physical activity due to a fear of judgement – this might be about the way the look when they exercise, that they’re not good enough to join in or they should be spending more time on their families, studies or other priorities.

The 2019 Devon Girls Can campaign will have lots of activities on offer with a supportive network and inspiring ambassadors.

Louise Evans, Programmes Manager at Active Devon, says:  “We want to reach, support and encourage even more women and girls to overcome their barriers and feel the benefits of being active in body and mind.

“The campaign is all about motivating each other to get active no matter who we are, where we’re from or how well we do it.”

Young mum Rochelle Jones got involved with the campaign after the birth of her daughter.  “I thought to myself, I don’t want to just sit at home and let the day go by.” added Rochelle.

“The campaign really struck a chord with me and I just went out and got a couple of dumbbells and started slowly and built up gradually with some very simple exercise programmes. I feel so much better about myself and I would recommend getting involved."
