"Substance" death teenager named locally

Two children were found unwell near Tavistock viaduct

15-year-old Hannah Bragg was talented horse rider

The 15-year-old girl who died after taking an unknown substance in Tavistock at the weekend has been named locally as Hannah Bragg.

Miss Bragg is said to have been a talented rider with the East Cornwall Hunt Pony Club. The club, at which she won most improved newcomer in 2016, is now to organise a fundraiser for the Cornwall Air Ambulance, which tried to help her and a 14 year-old boy, after they were taken ill in the street near a disused viaduct.

The boy, who hasn't yet been identified, remains critically ill but recovering in hospital.

In an initial statement over the weekend, Inspector Pete Turner said: “Enquiries are ongoing as to how the substance was obtained. I would like to stress that initial enquiries show that this is an isolated incident involving these two young people and we do not believe that there is any wider risk to the Tavistock community. We would however urge all parents and carers to speak to their children and young people about the risks of taking unknown substances.”

Police would like to speak to anyone who has information in connection with the incident, including anyone who was in the area around the viaduct/Crowndale Road on Saturday afternoon. Contact 101@dc.police.uk or phone 101, quoting log number 655 of 23/06/18. Calls cost 15 pence.
