Ski slope remains open despite closure of sports centre

The ski slope land is leased by the council to Exeter Ski Club

Clifton Hill's demise will not affect ski slope’s autumn timetable

The club has an active Adaptive Ski Club, as well a race team with several junior athletes ranked in the national top 10 in their age groups.

Clive Bishop, chairman of Exeter Ski Club, says: “We’ve been part of the city for 50 years and have taught over 100,000 Exeter people to ski over that time. With winter sports growing in popularity each year, the club remains vibrant and we fully intend to reopen as normal in October despite the closure of the nearby Sports Centre."

Mike Carson, City Surveyor at Exeter City Council, said: “The ski club has a secure tenancy with the council. Following the recent decision by the council to close the Clifton Hill Sports Centre, we are reviewing the longer-term options for the whole site, including the land to the rear. However, in the meantime, the ski slope will remain open as usual.”
