Exeter man on explosives charges

Royal Navy’s explosive disposal team involved

Police were called at around 7.35pm on Wednesday 21 November to Larkbeare Road, Exeter following reports of possible explosive material within an address.

Local officers, supported by a range of specialists, including the Royal Navy’s EOD team attended the area on Wednesday evening. Later that night police arrested one man in connection to this incident.

Officers charged 29-year-old Robert Manners of Larkbeare Road, Exeter with making or possessing an explosive substance under Section 4 of the Explosive Act 1883; He's been remanded in custody and will appear in court again on Friday 30th November.

Superintendent Matt Lawler, Local Policing Commander for Exeter, East and Mid Devon said: “We are really grateful for the patience and support shown by local residents and we do appreciate that earlier reports of this incident may have caused some understandable concern.

“Following the completion of enquiries and searches yesterday, officers have now left the area and returned it to normal, and a local man has now been interviewed and charged to appear in Court”

“If local residents or businesses have any remaining concerns regarding this incident then I would encourage contact with the local neighbourhood team who have been on foot-patrol in the area, and will continue to be available for any questions or concerns."
