Mother of Exeter Arctic 30 activist hopeful for progress

The mother of the Exeter man being held in Russia with a group of other Greenpeace activists says she's now hopeful that progress will be made to secure their release.

The families of all six British detainees have met the Foreign Office minister David Lidington, whose brief includes Russia.

He's assured them that work is going on 'behind the scenes' to negotiate with the Russian authorities - who took the group into custody two months ago for protesting against oil drilling in the Arctic.

David Cameron has spoken to President Putin, the Foreign Secretary William Hague has raised concerns with his Russian counterpart, and the Business Secretary Vince Cable is set to call for the group to be treated fairly when he visits Russia for trade talks.

Sue Turner is the mother of the Exeter engineer Iain Rogers - she's encouraged by the news.

She says in the run-up to Russia hosting the Winter Olympics in February, the eyes of the world are on Russia and its authorities should be urged to show compassion.
