Olympic medalist set to open £10 million water park in Devon

Olympian and TV personality Sharron Davies will officially cut the ribbon on a new £10 million water park at Haulfryn’s Finlake resort in Devon this month.

The Commonwealth gold and Olympic silver medallist has been invited to Finlake to unveil a raft of improvements including a new water park, gym and leisure facilities.

Sharron will open the new multi-million pound facilities, which include slides, splash zones and two pools, on Thursday 15th February at a special ceremony.

It is thought that the upgrades will create 80 new jobs in the Teignbridge area.

She said, “It is fantastic to see investment in swimming and leisure facilities that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Swimming has so many benefits for people of all ages, and Haulfryn obviously recognise the importance of investing in these facilities to encourage more people to use them.

“The pools, slides and splash zones will be a real attraction for both holiday makers and people from the local area, giving more people access to quality facilities and promoting healthy and active lifestyles.”

The second phase of the parks upgrade has commenced; a £3 million purpose built Spa and Relaxation building. This will be followed by new restaurant and lodge facilities completing an overall £23 million investment in Finlake.

Bobby McGhee, CEO at Haulfryn Group, added, “The aim at all Haulfryn parks is to create quality facilities to complement the quality of the luxury lodges. This significant investment in the park will not only bring benefits for local people and holidaymakers, it will also create new jobs and attract more people to the region, boosting the local economy.

Key elements of the site upgrade include:

-          100 new luxury lodges

-          £8 million, 500 capacity new water park (slides, splash zones and two pools), gym and leisure complex

-          £4 million upgrade of leisure buildings into new sauna and spa centre

-          Doubling of restaurant and bar space

-          Public gym memberships to grow by 500

-          Contemporary architecture with a strong connection to the surrounding landscape
