People at risk of cancer would like doctors to check out potential symptoms much sooner than the current NHS guidelines suggest, according to a study involving Exeter University medical school.
Researchers worked with colleagues at the Universities of Bristol and Cambridge.
They found that 88 per cent of those they questioned would want further investigation of symptoms even if there was only a one per cent chance they had cancer.
The current guidelines suggest further checks only if the risk is five per cent or higher.
