Rugby world cup 'could boost economy by £5m'

The Rugby World Cup next year is expected to bring up to five million pounds into Exeter's economy.

Three of the matches will be played at Sandy Park.

The five million pound figure is based on 50 per cent of ticketholders staying overnight in Exeter for all three games - if only 10 per cent of them do so it will bring in nearly a hundred thousand.

Hotels and restaurants, shops and transport companies will all benefit.

Meanwhile there's a small taste of the World Cup excitement this weekend as the Exeter Chiefs prepare to take on Northampton in the LV cup final tomorrow.

A 'rugby festival' takes place in Princesshay this afternoon with a live screening of the Six Nations match, children's entertainment and other attractions.
