Shrouded Somme figures laid in Exeter Park

Thousands of figures have been laid out in an Exeter park as a memorial to the casualties on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Nineteen thousand two hundred and forty allied deaths were reported on the first of July 1916. 

Artist Rob Heard felt the centenary must be marked and has laid out the exact number of shrouded figures in Northernhay Gardens.
