Six year-old girl attacked by peacock

Jessica, aged 6, was visiting Paignton zoo when the bird went for her face and neck.

Paignton Zoo says a blood vessel in her nose was cut and caused bleeding. They're now putting up new warning signs in the area where visitors and animals interact.

The zoo's apologised to the family of the little girl.

Phillip Knowing, spokesperson at Paignton Zoo, said: "We don't know how it happen, there was some blood and first aid were called unattededna and patched her up. Because it was on the nose, someone said a capillary was broken causing there to be a lot of blood, although it was only a scratch.

"Luckily, it's a very small incident the girl and bird are both ok. It is very rare for this to happen, we encourage all our visitors to admire the wildlife around them and to respect it but not get to close."
