Man bailed, but witnesses needed

A number of customers at an Esso garage in Torquay could have seen an armed robber as he stole £350 and a bottle of gin on Friday 31 August.

The man, described as being in his mid to late 20s, jumped over the counter at the shop on Avenue Road around 10.40 p.m. after pushing past queuing customers and producing a large knife before demanding money from the till. After grabbing the money and booze, he ran off in the direction of the seafront.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Dixie Dean says many customers have yet to come forward to give their account. "These witnesses could hold information vital to the investigation and we urge them to make contact with us. 

The suspect is slim to medium build with a short black beard, 5'8" to 5'10" tall with a local accent. He was wearing a black hoodie, black trousers and black trainers with white soles.

On Monday 3 September, a 33-year-old Torquay man was arrested in connected with the robbery and released on bail until Monday 1 October.
