Torquay United 3 Guiseley 4

Another loss for relegated Torquay disappoints home fans

Match Review by Travis Robinson at Plainmoor

Tuesday 24 April 2018

Some Torquay United fans left Plainmoor disheartened  following another defeat. With relegation confirmed at the weekend, the Gulls went into this match looking to regain some honour against bottom-of-the-league Guiseley.

End-to-end attacking play throughout the match made it entertaining for spectators. Unfortunately, Torquay couldn't turn excitement into points, although goals came thick and fast; seven in total. Hero of the day for Torquay was Rhys Healey, who is on a short loan until the end of the season from Cardiff City, who scored a man-of-the-match winning hat-trick. But no other Torquay player could add to that – and Guiseley scored more. The general feeling from many supporters was a feeling of neglect towards the team throughout the season. It’s become worse at the end of the season approached. Manager Gary Owers has apologised to fans.

One dedicated Torquay United fan: "We're a good attacking side, although the willingness and spirit in the team has gone and this is why we conceded so many goals tonight.

“They're sending the wrong message out to the younger generation of players, because throughout the season the first team squad have needed a better mentality and more drive to win. This starts in preparation towards the match, not just on how they perform on the pitch."
