Tributes to barrister killed in A30 crash

Robert Duval, who has died in a car crash

60 year-old Robert Duval was 'finest advocate and gentleman' says his chambers.

It's thought Robert Duval was on his way to Truro on Tuesday (13 February) to represent a man accused of being involved in an armed robbery of the Micheal Spiers jewellers shop in the city.

His Bristol-based chambers say his death's a great shock, and he was "an inspirational role model for those around him"

A statement on Albion Chambers' website says: "The suddenness of Robert’s death has been a great shock and we are grateful for the many messages of sympathy and support. His humanity, boundless talent and inimitable sense of humour will be greatly missed. Our love and thoughts are with Robert’s wife Caroline and his daughters; Sophia, Ellie and Lucy."

Mr Duval's BMW and a lorry collided on the A30 near Upottery at around 7am on Tuesday. He died at the scene. Another crash near Cullompton on the M5 that morning caused extensive traffic chaos around Exeter. Police are asking for witnesses to either incident to contact them on 101.
