Young councillor dies suddenly

Clarissa Slade has died aged 21

Clarissa Slade was the UK's youngest councillor when she was elected aged 18

The country's youngest councillor when she was elected, Clarissa Slade from Tiverton, has died at the age of 21. Ms Slade, who was also a student at Winchester University, represented the Cranmore ward on Mid Devon District Council.

A Conservative, she had been gaining a profile nationally. The council's opened a book of condolence. Her university says they're deeply saddened and their thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

Ms Slade's parents, Colin and Elizabeth, are also Conservative councillors on Mid Devon District Council. It's not yet known how she died.

Radio Exe has passed its condolences to Mr and Mrs Slade on their loss. Mr Slade was the original programme manager of the company Radio Exe took over from, Exeter FM. He remains a dear friend of the station and we know he was tremendously proud of Clarissa's achievements.
