Teenage bodyborder helped by RNLI

A teenage boy has Exmouth's RNLI to thank after they spotted him struggling against the tide on Friday afternoon.

The 13-year-old was bodyboarding in good weather when he got into difficulty just after 1 p.m.

He was said to be in distress when he was seen waving down the crew of the town's inshore lifeboat who were out at the time.

The inshore lifeboat was returning to Exmouth lifeboat station following a search exercise with Exmouth National Coastwatch Institution off the Exmouth shoreline when they saw the young bodyboarder near number seven buoy in the channel.

With a strong tide, he was unable to make headway.

The lifeboat crew sped to the scene, retrieved the child from the water and got him onto the lifeboat and took him to the safety of Exmouth beach where he was reunited with his parents.

The volunteer crew assessed his condition, he was found to be uninjured and didn't need medical attention.

The inshore lifeboat was back ready for service from the lifeboat station a short time later.
