Anger as fire chief goes part-time

The chief fire officer of the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service goes part time today.

It was announced earlier this month that Lee Howell has been appointed as an advisor to the Welsh Government, spending up to two days a week there.

The news prompted anger from the Fire Brigades Union - coming so soon after the decision to make cuts to some front-line services in response to a shortfall in Government funding.

In a statement Lee Howell says he's fully aware of the need to balance the demands of his workload and confident that he can do both jobs effectively - most of his time will be in Devon and Somerset and he's supported by some exceptional senior managers and staff.
