The Exeter medics detected a case of the highly-infectious mumps
Medical students from the University of Exeter helped to treat nearly 5,000 people at this year's Glastonbury Festival.
The students volunteer at the event annually as part of the Festival Medical Services programme.
They treated a man suffering from mumps, along with a significant number of people for dehydration and sunstroke due to near-record temperatures of 27C.
The group completed an intense emergency care training course to prepare them for the festival.
Niamh Scullion, a third year student, said: “Volunteering as a first responder at Glastonbury was an incredible experience. Managing patients in loud, busy environments with much less kit than we are used to having in hospital environment was challenging.
"I have learnt so much from the experience and cannot wait to volunteer with Festival M S again in the future."
