The initial plans for Exeter's 25 million pound flood defences are going out to public consultation this week.
A series of barriers, walls and raised banks will be built along the length of the River Exe as it runs through the city.
There are four locations where different options are being considered - the Quay, the area around the Mill on the Exe, Mill Lane in Countess Wear, and St Andrews Road in Exwick.
Public meetings are being held in those places this week, starting this afternoon at Redhills school in Exwick.
