Police declare critical incident in Exeter

Two people seriously hurt in fire

Police have declared a 'critical incident' in Exeter after a house fire near St David's Station.

The blaze is said to have broken out in the early hours of Sunday, with police being informed by the ambulance at 5.30 a.m. By that time, the fire on Clayton Road in the St David’s area had already been put out.

The occupants of the property are currently in hospital in a critical condition.

Police continue to work with specialist investigators from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue to work out how the fire started. There is currently no damage or risk to any of the adjoining properties in the area.

Several localised road closures are in place including at Bonhay Road and Tudor Road, there is also a cordon in place at Tavistock Road. This is expected to remain in place for quite some time and we ask that the public and road users avoid the area.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the police on 101 quoting log 140 of 21 February.
