Police investigate attempted kidnap

40 year old man from London arrested.

Police are continuing to investigate reports of an attempted kidnap in Plymouth.

The incident was reported to have taken place near the roundabout on Brest Road at around 1.15pm yesterday (Wednesday 3rd July).

It was reported that a man in a silver Mercedes stopped on the roundabout of Brest Road and spoke to a woman in hers 20s.

Following a short verbal exchange, it was reported that the man grabbed the victim’s hair and attempted to drag her into the car.

The victim was able to get away from the scene safely and was not injured.

The vehicle was believed to have travelled from the direction of Tavistock Road and stopped at the central pedestrian island where the incident took place.

The vehicle then left the scene in the direction of William Prance road and was later located in Avon and Somerset and seized by officers.

Officers are now investigating a further report that a sliver Mercedes was seen in the area along William Prance Road, between Tavistock Road and the roundabout at Brest Road, which appeared to be driving slowly and following two females.

Detectives would like to trace these two females as a matter of urgency. One of them is described as white, tall and thin with long hair. The other is described as Asian, shorter, and with dark hair. She was wearing a loose trouser suit.

Police are still keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Brest Road at the time and may have relevant dashcam footage.

A man in his 40s, from London, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap. He remains in police custody in Avon and Somerset at this time.
