Duke of Sussex is captain general of the Royal Marines

A Royal Navy attack helicopter will be flying into Devon on Thursday carrying a VIP dignitary.

The Duke of Sussex is set to receive a ceremonial welcome when we arrives at Commando Training Centre at Lympstone.

Prince Harry will meet recruits in the gym and on the famous assault course overlooking the Exe Estuary. He’s also due to see Invictus Games racing drivers. The duke became captain general of the Royal Marines in December, taking over from his grandfather, Prince Philip, who has retired from public duties.

The last leading royal to train at Lympstone was the Duke of Wessex - Prince Edward - who famously quit midway through the course.

The aircraft Prince Harry will arrive in is a Royal Navy Wildcat from one of the three squadrons of the commando helicopter force, billed as "the wings of the Royal Marines." They provide aerial support to the service "be they at sea in an assault ship or in the sand and dust of Afghanistan."
