Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital continuing as normal today despite snow

The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospitals outpatients and elective services are continuing as normal today despite the bad weather.

If you intend to visit a patient in hospital today, people are being asked to travel safely and told not to take any risks given the conditions on the roads and pavements.

A Trust spokesperson for RD&E said: “Despite the snowfall over the weekend, our outpatients and elective services are continuing as normal today. However, bearing in mind the travel advice to the public, if you are scheduled for an appointment today, it is important that you are able to travel safely and check public transport before you set off.

"Please do not take any personal risks to get to and from the hospital and if you are unable to attend your appointment as a result of the weather then we ask patients to phone in and rebook.

"If you intend to visit a patient in hospital today, we are asking you to ensure you can travel in and get home safely. Please do not take any risks given the conditions on the roads and pavements.

"If you require medical attention and it is not urgent, then please contact your GP, phone NHS 111 helpline or speak to your local pharmacist. Our Minor Injury Units are open as normal.  We would also encourage people to stock up on over-the-counter medicines and remedies to help manage minor illnesses and injuries at home this winter and to get a free flu jab if eligible. Our Emergency Department is likely to be very busy so please think carefully about using this option.”
