Talks continue over closure of women's refuge

Talks are continuing on the provision of accommodation for domestic violence victims when the Exeter women's refuge closes next month.

The refuge was due to close anyway, but the charity taking over Devon county council's domestic violence services didn't want to provide a replacement, preferring to enable victims to stay in their own homes.

The charity says all those using the refuge have been offered alternative, secure accommodation.

But many people needing emergency housing will now go to the city council - and Councillor Rob Hannaford, who'se responsible for housing, hopes there'll be some funding to reflect that extra demand.
