Police in Tiverton are calling for vigilance after thousands of pounds worth of tools were stolen from vans in the town overnight between Thursday and Friday, 4 to 5 June.

Vans parked in residential areas close to the junction with the A361 link road were targeted including Priory Road, Bluebell Avenue and Margurite Road.

The perpetrators gained entry to the vans by drilling holes in their doors and various high value power tools including Makita drills, nail guns, angle grinders, circular saws, cordless drill batteries, battery chargers and disc cutters were subsequently stolen.

One eyewitness describes seeing three men leaving the Priory Road area in a grey/silver hatchback in the direction of Lea Road which leads to Gornhay Cross and the A361.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity in the above areas last night or those who have CCTV cameras which may have relevant footage. Similar crimes have been reported in the Exeter area, including Pinhoe and Clyst St Mary, towards the end of May.

PC Neil Miles, said: “From the way the vehicles were broken into it suggests the perpetrators are experienced criminals. We want to urge people to be vigilant, and ensure their vehicles are secured well overnight and valuable items are removed, while appealing for any information which could help us find those responsible.”
