55 minutes | Thursday, 7 August 2025
Saturday is the start of a brand new football season for the Gulls and we hear from Torquay United manager Paul Wotton about the squad, expectations, and that first game against Enfield Town. Joining Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and David Thomas today is Clive Hayward and there is much to discuss ahead of the big National League South opener. They talk about that final friendly against Weymouth and a possible starting line up for Saturday - with all agreed that 10 of the 11 players are pretty much nailed on. So that leaves one question mark - right in the centre of the park. The podcast...

It takes a lot to get the Yellow Army podcasters out from behind their screens, but the offer of tea and cakes by the seaside seems to have done the trick. Invited to record this week’s edition sitting outside a beach hut beside Preston Sands, they jumped at the chance. Hence a podcast with the sea in the background and one brief interruption when the heavens opened and threatened to turn their notebooks into papier mache. On the agenda this week is a look back at the Exeter friendly and ahead at the trip to Weymouth, along with a bash at naming the starting XI for the league opener again...

Torquay United had contrasting results in the past week with that wonderful 3-1 win against Newport County followed by Wednesday's 6-0 defeat at Plainmoor by Plymouth Argyle. It was a bit of a wake-up call for Gulls fans but manager Paul Wotton isn't too worried. In fact he called it 'a brilliant learning curve'. Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes talk about the two games, and how pre-season is going. They talk about the different balls used on Wednesday, and the make-up of the crowd - with many more than the 1,500 Argyle fans in the crowd of over 5,000. We are closing in on the season and...

Rumours were abound at Buckland on Saturday that another player was about to sign on Monday. That didn't happen but a signing is expected today - perhaps it has already happened. The sun and the wasps were out at Buckland too - with Torquay playing their first pre-season and winning 3-0 at Homers Heath. David Thomas joins Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes for this one, ahead of friendlies against Newport County, Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City. It's all quite exciting - as the chaps talk through another week of Torquay United news. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.co...
1 hour 12 minutes | Thursday, 10 July 2025
This week it is four men in a kitchen talking about football - with new Torquay United Supporter Liaison Officer Paul Bastard joining Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and David Thomas for the final podcast before a ball is kicked. Pre-season really gets going on Saturday when Torquay are at Buckland Athletic for a 12.30pm kick off - and with the release of the Gulls' fixtures this week, there is lots to discuss. But first, well-known fan Paul tells about his new role at the club and what it involves. There are memories of big games - good and bad - and lots more in a long one this week. So ...

The Gulls are back in training and Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes go down the line for this edition of the longest-running Torquay United Podcast. Richard talks to co-chairman Michael Westcott about how this pre-season feels compared to the last, and about how exciting it is at training after the players went back last week. We have a Devon Bowl first round draw to talk through - and there is much more to discuss, before the promise of a special guest next week. Until then - Come On You Yellows! It's the first day of training and we have a new signing, too - welcome back to the club Jordan Thomas. It's a short podcast today with Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes talking about the last week's developments - and we hear an excerpt from Paul Wotton's chat with Patrick Tinkler on the club's website. There are memories of an amazing goal, and a question about Players of the Season from David Thomas for you all to think about. And so much more... After a two-week break, the Yellow Army Podcast had some catching up to do - with lots of news coming out of the club while they were away. David Thomas joins Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes in the Paignton studio (Guy's office/dining room) to discuss the signings of Louis Dennis and Callum Dolan, the re-signing of James Hamon, and a couple of players who have decided their futures lie elsewhere. The pitch is looking good, with pre-season training not far off now. There is a new CEO, and David remembers footballer and county music star Dick Edwards, who we lost this week. Until next wee...

Welcome to the final Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast before a two-week break because of holidays in the sun, and in the wilds of Norfolk. Guy Henderson and David Thomas join Richard Hughes in his kitchen to sift through the latest news coming out of Plainmoor, which isn't an awful lot. But somehow, the podcasters managed 45 minutes with chat about players who are yet to sign their offered deals - and thoughts on a smaller squad next season, despite seven subs now allowed. We also talk through the women's disappointing end to their season, the Goal of the Season choices - and there is...
53 minutes | Thursday, 22 May 2025
Welcome back to the Torquay United Podcast - and this week we aren't overheating, as Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and David Thomas sit in a shaded Paignton studio (Guy's dining room/home office). There is much to discuss as we hear from Paul Wotton, who reflects on the Boreham Wood game, and talks about this period of a year, which is perhaps not his favourite part of the job, but possibly the most important. We also hear from new signing Munashe Sundire, who is the first new player at the club this summer - and he talks about what the manager will want from him in midfield next season. ...

The Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast took to the garden with coffee and biscuits but didn't think about keeping the phone recording Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and David Thomas in the shade. Torquay are always the hot topic but next week it will be an overheating phone that will lead the discussion. For now, enjoy three men in a garden, the sounds of birds, hill-climbing cars, and half an hour of Torquay chat - before the phone was heated by the sun into shutdown mode. The retained list dominates and there is a fond farewell to Dean Moxey - a man so professional he wouldn't have let ...
1 hour 8 minutes | Wednesday, 7 May 2025
After the huge disappointment of last weekend, when Torquay United were knocked out of the National League South play-offs by Boreham Wood, Richard Hughes talks to co-chairman Michael Westcott about what comes next. Richard and Guy Henderson are joined by David Thomas in Richard's kitchen as we move into a massive summer for the Gulls. On the table is talk about that game against Boreham, what will happen once the dust has settled, and who might stay and who might go. Also, incomers anyone? It hurts right now but let's get together and be as one for next season. It's going to be a great...

So it came down to just two goals - with Torquay United missing out on the sole automatic promotion slot when they won 4-1 at Hemel Hempstead Town, but Truro City won 5-2 against St Albans City in Cornwall. With Torquay now looking forward to a full house for the home play-off game against Boreham Wood on Saturday, Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes are joined by David Thomas and Clive Hayward for this latest episode of the longest running Gulls podcast. We hear from the manager Paul Wotton and the fellas talk about the game with some nice words said about the host club on Saturday - and a ...

So there is now just one single game to go to decide the title or play-off fate of Torquay United and five other teams who can still be automatically promoted to the National League. This National South season has been an extraordinary one and still on the last day any one of six teams could win it. The other five will have to prepare for the play-offs. After Bank Holiday wins against Truro City and Weymouth, second-placed Torquay are at Hemel Hempstead Town on Saturday, while leaders Truro City are at St Albans City. Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes are joined by David Thomas and Clive Ha...
41 minutes | Thursday, 17 April 2025
Here we go: it's off to Cornwall for a massive six-pointer against the National League South leaders Truro City. After playing 43 games each, both teams have three games to go and Torquay United are very much a part of the race for the title. We hear from Paul Wotton - who joined the Gulls from Truro in the summer - on the game, and Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and David Thomas talk it through too. It's going to be wet and windy apparently - and perhaps not one for the purists. With Weymouth coming to Plainmoor on Monday, too, this is one big weekend for the Gulls. Come on you Yellows. Le...
51 minutes | Thursday, 10 April 2025
It was a frustrating watch on Saturday as Torquay United took the lead against Chesham United - only to be denied the three points by two breakaway goals. The ref didn't help - Chesham started wasting time from the first time the goalkeeper had the ball, yet he was only booked in the 97th minute, when the yellow card essentially had become pointless. The Yellow Army Podcast is a four-hander today with Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes joined by David Thomas and Clive Hayward. That defeat on Saturday wasn't solely down to poor refereeing though and the we hear from Gulls boss Paul Wotton, and...
54 minutes | Thursday, 3 April 2025

In this week's episode of the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast, Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and David Thomas discuss the chances and the odds and the run-in. We also hear from manager Paul Wotton, who was relaxed about the situation during his weekly press conference today. It's all good stuff. 35 minutes | Thursday, 27 March 2025
With six games left to go, everything is happening at pace at Plainmoor. The podcasters join Gulls manager Paul Wotton on National League South’s transfer deadline day, with the whiff of a new signing in the air. Wotton looks back on a job well done against Bath at the weekend, and reflects on the impact striker Cody Cooke makes when he arrives on the scene. There’s a look ahead to the remaining games, and a lot of speculation about what might happen between now and the end of the campaign. The Gulls manager explains why he and his squad won’t be getting carried away and won’t be shifting f...

David Thomas returns to join Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes as the Podcasters get their heads around a new Sky Sports six-a-side tournament. We also hear from Paul Wotton about the win at Dorking Wanderers, and Saturday's big game at a packed Plainmoor when Bath City are the Gulls latest opponents. It's a long one today and after things of note are Tom Lapslie training with the Gulls, and Richard's Sprint clean which unearthed a few cracking pieces of Torquay memorabilia... So the brilliant 3-1 away win at Tonbridge Angels was followed by Tuesday night's disappointing 2-2 home draw against Salisbury. Guy Henderson returns to join Richard Hughes in this week's Yellow Army Podcast and the pair talk about those two games, and we hear from the manager Paul Wotton about his reaction to the Salisbury draw. There are eight games to go now and every one is a cup final. Bring it on... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

So there are 10 games to go and 30 points up for grabs. There are eight teams still with a chance of making a late surge for the National League South title, and that one automatic promotion place - and one of them is sixth-placed Torquay United! In this week's Yellow Army Podcast we hear from manager Paul Wotton as he talks about the games against Boreham Wood (2-2 with that devastating late equaliser) and Chippenham Town (3-1 and three points). With Guy Henderson on holiday, Richard Hughes asks David Thomas to give us his thoughts on those two games, and the run-in. He is pretty confident...

"We are in it for the fight," says Torquay United manager Paul Wotton in his press conference this week - and with 12 games to go, the fight is not going to be for the fainthearted. After the disaster of that defeat at Chelmsford City on Saturday, the Gulls won a point at Weston-super-Mare on Saturday to go sixth and put themselves in a better place for the visit of Boreham Wood this weekend. Paul tells us he is very excited about the run in - and so should we be. There is more for Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and Clive Hayward to discuss, like the memory of a Bournemouth team made up of G...
1 hour 2 minutes | Thursday, 20 February 2025
Guy Henderson returns to the hot seat as the Podcasters reflect on a hard-fought 2-1 win against Hornchurch, and look forward to games against Chelmsford City and Weston-super-Mare. The games are going to be coming thick and fast now and Richard Hughes and David Thomas join Guy for this edition of the original Torquay United Podcast. We hear from manager Paul Wotton in his weekly press conference and there is much talk about the club's very own documentary offering Taking Flight. What a good thing that is! And we wait for Sam Dreyer's red card appeal.* There was lots to pack in this week - ...

On Wednesday we heard the terrible news of the passing of former Torquay United player Tony Bedeau at the age of just 45. Today the Podcasters talk about the player they both knew and loved watching on the pitch for the Gulls. With Richard Hughes holding the fort for Guy Henderson, he is joined by David Thomas and the pair share some memories of Beds. We also hear from Torquay manager Paul Wotton, who played against Tony on many occasions, as he talks about Tuesday's 2-2 draw at Worthing, and Saturday's home game against Hornchurch. It's still tight at the top and there is much to play for,...
53 minutes | Thursday, 6 February 2025
It's Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast time again and this week Richard Hughes asks David Thomas the question: 'What Is Going On?' Ahead of Saturday's home game against Eastbourne Borough, we hear from manager Paul Wotton about a recent run of results that has seen Torquay win only two points from four games.  But after three good performances, the Gulls were second best at Maidstone United last weekend. They are now sixth in the table after dropping off the top during that run. But it is so tight at the top with all the teams in the top seven still probably feeling they can win the Nation...

If you were there, and let's face it, a lot of people were, you might still be scratching your head about why Torquay United didn't beat Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday. But as it was, the Gulls lost 1-0 on a day when they did everything but score. We hear from Paul Wotton about that game and why Tuesday's postponement might not be such a bad thing - and he talks about Matt Jay, the former Exeter City captain who signed last week and made his debut on Saturday. Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes are once again joined by David Thomas for this one - and there is much to discuss. There is...

Time to push on. The Torquay United Yellow Army Podcasters Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes are joined by Clive Hayward of Torquay Talk this week for a reflection on two away draws. The 1-1 draw at St Albans City was followed by that disappointing 2-2 draw at Slough Town - and Clive certainly has something to say about that! We also hear from manager Paul Wotton about new signing Emmanuel Ilesanmi, a new striker on loan from Derby County - and the manager's thoughts on those four points dropped. With another player expected before Hampton & Richmond Borough come to Plainmoor on Saturday, th...
51 minutes | Thursday, 16 January 2025
We are approaching three games in eight days, and three away games in the next four - so there is much to discuss for the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcasters this week. Ahead of Saturday's trip to St Albans City, we hear from manager Paul Wotton who knows it's going to be a tough week with three games in eight days, and he also shares his thoughts on that 'fairly' comfortable 3-1 home win against Welling United. And we discuss recruitment - does Torquay need to get another striker in quick, or can they afford to wait, with some quality forward-thinking midfielders already in the squad. Da...

The Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast is back after a Christmas and New Year break – and guess what? There is much to discuss. Joining Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes this week are David Thomas and Clive Hayward, and we pick apart the last two games, that wonderful 1-0 win against Truro City on NYD, and the rather horrible 5-1 defeat Worthing on Saturday. Who wanted an FA Trophy run, anyway? Ahead of Torquay’s return to National South action against Welling United at Plainmoor on Saturday, we hear from the manager Paul Wotton. Welcome to 2025, Gulls fans – it’s going to be a good one. Lea...
