Some good news from the club today as Aaron Downes reveals the players have been paid - although Richard Hughes can't quite get his tongue around that sentence in today's Yellow Army Podcast chat with Guy Henderson.
It has been quite a week in the life of Torquay United, with Clarke Osbourne walking away last Thursday and manager Gary Johnson following his exit from the club that evening. So there is much to discuss for our podcasters.
They talk about the appointment of Aaron Downes as interim manager, the 2-2 draw against Aveley at a rocking Plainmoor on Saturday, and plans for the game ag...
Yesterday was a shocking day for all Torquay United fans, whether they wanted Clarke Osborne out, Gary Johnson out, or not. The Podcasters, Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson, went to the usual Thursday press conference and everything seemed normal.
The pod was recorded and edited and uploaded, and was just about to be put on DevonLive when the news broke that Osborne was stepping down as chairman and the club was being put into administration.
In the evening, Gary Johnson left - and it was decided we would do another pod this morning.
So here it is - Judgement Day II (With Words From Aaron D...
Here were are again, the Podcasters sitting at Guy Henderson's table talking about a club going through some difficult times, on and off the pitch. Guy and Richard Hughes have much to discuss then, as the rain pours down in Paignton.
Torquay ended that awful run of five defeats with a 0-0 draw at Farnborough - but a point only meant they are seven points away from the National League South play-off places rather than the five they were before.
But manager Gary Johnson said in his press call that he now has the team he has wanted all season, with the returns of Aaron Jarvis, Kevin Dawson and...
It has been a pretty rough week for Gulls fans after that fourth defeat on the trot against Slough Town.
For Podcasters Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson, it is time to reflect on that defeat and talk about Richard's column from this week's Herald Express.
Torquay boss Gary Johnson also talks about the Slough defeat, the postponement at Taunton Town on Tuesday, and injured players - plus he looks forward to the game against Braintree Town this weekend. There are two tough games on the road - at Braintree and Farnborough - before Torquay are back at Plainmoor again for the visit of Aveley on ...
After a break for a week, it is good to be back - but there's no getting away from it, and Gary Johnson doesn't in his interview this week, Saturday’s showing against St Albans City was one of the worst performances by a Torquay United side for some considerable time.
So there is much to discuss as Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson sit in a car outside the ground and watch the rain fall down and the windows steam up.
After that 4-0 defeat by St Albans, Torquay were better at Maidstone United - and there is the hint of a couple of big players being available this weekend, when Slough Town co...
This week's Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast is a bit all over the place with Guy Henderson unable to attend the 12.30pm press call with Gary Johnson, so recording the chat-bit with Richard Hughes before that happened.
Which means, when the Podcasters go over the Gary they come back from the other side without knowing what he said. Only after Richard went to Plainmoor later was the bit in the middle pasted into place. Confused? You will be.
Torquay head to Worthing this weekend after the 1-1 draw at Chippenham Town on a run of three games undefeated - but results need to be better than dr...
The Podcasters are a day late this week so apologies to the Yellow Army for that - but there is much to discuss so Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson hunker down and talk all things Torquay United.
Where to start? Oh, that horrible show at Hereford where Torquay were poor and tempers' flared in the away end. Out the Trophy then - is that a good or a bad thing as the Gulls get back to National League South action this weekend with a home game against bottom-of-the-table Dover Athletic?
After Duane Ofori-Acheampong's brief cameo last weekend, who will start up front for this one? Will Tom Lapsl...
The Podcasters Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson take their usual sideways look at what is going on at Torquay United, where injuries are biting as much as the cold at the training ground.
We hear from Gary Johnson, who was keen to talk about the injured players - some of whom might be back for the next National League South game against Dover Athletic.
But first Torquay go to Hereford this weekend for a FA Trophy fourth round tie - and there is a lot to talk about, with Guy getting all misty eyed about a Large footballer.
If you're going to Hereford on Saturday - seek out Guy and say hello....
Happy New Year and International Pat Cruise Week Torquay fans. Out with the old, in with the new. Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes have an early start for this week's first Yellow Army Pod of 2024 - and there is lots to discuss.
Torquay finished 2023 with two defeats - at Chelmsford City and at Plainmoor against Truro City - so there are the bones of those defeats to pick through.
We hear from Gary Johnson about those games and Saturday's visit of Eastbourne Borough, who Torquay beat 4-1 to start the good run in November and the start of December.
And the Gaffer gives us an update on the pl...
This week's episode of the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast is a Chunky Christmas Special with Richard Hughes, Guy Henderson, David Thomas, coffee and mince pies, World Cup 1970 coins, our yearly TUFC quiz - and Geroge Best dressed as Santa.
What more could you want as we countdown to the Big Day - Saturday's trip to Chelmsford City! See what I did there? We also hear from manager Gary Johnson and talk about the win against Hemel Hempstead Town, which came before Tuesday night's postponement at Taunton Town.
Also up for discussion are the strange cases of a ridiculous second yellow card ...
This week, Radio Yellow Army Podcast talks about The Young Ones. No, not the early 1980s TV show, but the late 2023 Torquay United FA Trophy selection. Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes are veritable old men compared to the likes of Jacob Wellington & Co after the average age of the players involved in the 4-1 win at Frome Town was 20!
We hear from manager Gary Johnson about that game and the visit of Hemel Hempstead Town on Saturday, the return of WJD from Plymouth, and the run-in to Christmas and the new year. There are 15 points on offer before 2024...
There is lots more to discuss too - ...
Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson are separated today for the latest edition of the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast.
It has been one of those weeks when there is plenty to discuss - what with the fans' protest at the game against Tonbridge Angels, three wins on the trot - and the injury crisis of all injury crises.
Guy was at the weekly press conference - taken by Aaron Downes as Gary Johnson was busy on the phone - and we learned quite a lot, including the fact that the recently missing Shaun Donnellan is not injured.
Torquay are away at Frome Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday - so best ...
What a wonderful Tuesday night we all had, watching or listening to the Gulls destroying Eastbourne Borough with four great goals, all from outside of the area. Just as well, as the previous Saturday, Torquay were woeful at Dartford.
So that gives the Podcasters much to discuss this week already - but there is the little matter of an interview with club owner Clarke Osborne, which was a little underwhelming, and this weekend's sit-in protest after the game against Tonbridge Angels. Will you be staying - or going?
Guy Henderson joins Richard Hughes and his dogs in the kitchen for this one, a...
In this week's Podcast, Richard Hughes is joined in the car, parked in Marnham Road, by David Thomas - and they talk through the last week's events at Torquay United.
We hear from the Gaffer, talking in the Gary Johnson Suit at Plainmoor, as he reveals there are a few players who could be back from injury for this weekend's game at Dartford - and tells us how Aaron Jarvis and Kevin Dawson are progressing.
It's gonna be busy, busy, busy before Christmas: Torquay have 10 games coming up in 33 days. So DT talks about how the squad looks now that there are new players and players coming back fr...
This week the Podcasters are in a dry Paignton studio while the wind and rain batters South Devon. Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes talk about that win at Havant & Waterlooville, and the antics of a certain third goalie there. An instant Torquay legend, some might say.
And then the attention turns to this weekend's game against Yeovil Town in the FA Trophy. We hear from manager Gary Johnson on the issues of the day - and Yeovil and Taunton Town, who we face in the National League South on Tuesday night.
And Guy suggests that, taken out of context, it has been a very good week for the Gulls....
Hello from a rainy day in Torquay where Richard Hughes was joined by David Thomas this week to pick through the bones of another frustrating defeat. After that satisfying win against Bath, Tuesday night's 3-1 loss to Yeovil was a real low blow.
But with five key players out, we hear what manager Gary Johnson says about that game and Saturday's against lowly Havant & Waterlooville.
And then they switch to a Statement from the club about Wednesday night's Supporters' Trust forum at the Livermead Cliff Hotel, which provoked an 11pm missive from the club that it's fair to say hasn't gone down t...
The Podcasters were a day early this week after the club's press call was on a Wednesday instead of a Thursday. Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes sheltered from the rain in the Paignton studio to discuss injuries, bad results, Bath City and Yeovil Town.
These are not the best of times for Gulls fans but Gary Johnson says he will do all he can to improve the form and go for promotion - stating there are still 30 games to go this season. And after the good news/bad news that Aaron Jarvis could be out until Christmas, there is better news about Tom Lapse and Dillon De Silva - and we welcome a s...
Two men sitting in a car in Marnham Road, while the rain falls from the dark clouds hanging above Plainmoor. Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson chat about the two contrasting games since last week's Pod - the 5-1 home win against Welling United, and Tuesday night's dismal defeat at Weston-super-Mare, where the air turned blue and things got toxic.
We chat to Gary Johnson about those games, and Guy addresses the 'Elephant in the Room' and asks the Gaffer about the atmosphere after the Weston game, when some fans turned on the manager and his staff.
And injuries - oh, the injuries! Kevin Dawson...
Another week, another podcast - and as usual there is much to discuss. Like, for example, did Mark Halstead have the ball under control when it was kicked out of his hands for that controversial goal against Maidstone United on Saturday?
After playing like triffids in the first half, Torquay were more shrinking violets in the second - and in the end they lost 2-0 to go out of the FA Cup.
The two games against Maidstone get talked about as Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes are reunited after two weeks apart. The pair sit in Guy's car outside Plainmoor and talk all things Torquay United - with...
It's something of a hybrid podcast this week, with Richard Hughes and David Thomas both absent and Guy Henderson holding the fort.
But that doesn't mean there isn't much to discuss. We begin at Seale Hayne with Gary Johnson's weekly press conference. We find him on good form, looking forward again to the FA Cup as he always does. He tells us about the enduring magic of the cup, and how good it was to welcome skipper Asa Hall back from injury last weekend.
And we sing the praises of Lewis Collins (cue Richard's 'Professionals' theme), one of the success stories of the season so far.
Then it'...
It's the Gaffer's birthday edition of the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast - so Happy Birthday Gary Johnson, and let's hope you have a good one, with a great day of training today, and a big cake tonight.
The Podcasters talk to the manager after last weekend's disappointing defeat at Hemel Hempstead Town, and ahead of this Saturday's FA Cup game at home to Hungerford Town.
Asa Hall took back his crutches as Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson sat in the car park, and there is further news about the injured players - and thoughts on Tuesday night's FA Devon Bowl defeat at Peninsula League sid...
On a wet day in Devon, Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes get together 'down the line' for this week's Podcast - and there is much to discuss.
We hear from Torquay manager Gary Johnson at a Seale Hayne training ground pummeled by rain, while we also hear comedian and Torquay fan Charlie Baker in conversation with Guy. He talks about the Gulls season so far and his upcoming show at Babbacombe Theatre.
Torquay's 3-0 win at Wimborne Town in the FA Cup was a good day out for Guy, but don't mention the skateboarders. Saturday's visit to Hemel Hempstead Town is also on the agenda.
Come on you Yello...
Did anyone mention the FA Cup? It's that week when Torquay United start out on the Road to Wembley, which will obviously end up next May with a big match against Manchester City - or something like that! But before that, the Gulls need to do a job at Wimborne Town on Saturday - a team managed by legend Tim Sills, who once scored a cracking goal for Torquay at England's home of football...
This week Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson are joined by David Thomas, and Guy talks to Mr Sills himself ahead of the big game. The Gaffer, Gary Johnson, also has his say.
There are thoughts on the brillia...
What a week - one awful performance and a brilliant one. The ups and downs of being a Torquay United fan. Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes are in the car studio for this week's Podcast - stuck in a crowded Seale Hayne car park.
The games against Aveley (bad) and Farnborough (good) are picked apart, and we hear from assistant manager Aaron Downes, who was the man behind the microphone at the press conference this week.
Plastic pitches come up again - we really don't enjoy playing on those! - and Saturday's visit by Chelmsford is also under the microscope. Also, DT's driving comes under scrut...
Hello again - the Podcasters are back with Guy Henderson joining Richard Hughes in the Paignton studio after enjoying a week away in the sun. On the agenda today is Sough, Braintree - and four wins on the trot.
The Gaffer talks in his usual Thursday press conference and as the rain falls outside Guy and Richard discuss both of the Bank Holiday weekend games, and another one on a plastic pitch at Aveley Who FC this Saturday. There is also a home game against Farnborough before next week's Pod.
More talking points: there were a couple of new fans on the Popside on Monday; the South West Mini ...
Guy Henderson took the Podcast outside this afternoon when he had a chat with some guests at Torquay United's season ticket holder training session at Plainmoor, while Richard Hughes (being a free-loading journo) was left at home doing the housework. We hear from life president Mervyn Benney, fans Julian Head and Bob Coles, and assistant manager Aaron Downes from the open session - and get their takes on the forthcoming National League South season. Just don't mention the cricket!Guy tells Richard all about it and the pair enjoy chatting about that win against Exeter City, which Richard pred...
Hello again from the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcasters, who return after a three-week summer break to chew over the fat of pre-season. Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson talk about how the new Torquay United squad is shaping up - and how it has coped so far in two behind-closed-doors friendlies, and against Plymouth Argyle. It is interesting times following that positive 1-1 draw against Argyle, which has the fans looking forward to the season even more. Furthermore, is it Brad or Bradley? There is also news on the enigma that is Manny Duku - and Guy's mate Tom (plus lots more Argyle fans)...
The Podcasters become a trio again as David Thomas joins Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes in the garden of the Paignton studio. You would think - with little news coming out of Plainmoor before the return of the players next Thursday - there was little to chat about, but with David being in the studio, there was much to discuss.Darren Moore's shock departure from Sheffield Wednesday, and the positive goalkeeping situation at the Torquay get an aring, while one former Gull has been signed by Watford after making a go of it in France. And there is a painful memory to dig up - as it is two yea...
We are slap bang in the middle of the quiet time really, aren't we? Signings are more or less done, and only a few weeks before the players get back for pre-season training, so for the Podcasters material is in short supply. However, the birds enjoyed listening to the two old men talking their way through the issues of the day while drinking coffee in a sunny garden - and we get the final four teams in Guy's rundown of who Torquay United will be playing in the National League South this coming season. Weymouth and Yeovil Town, it turns out, have their fair share of ex-Gulls players, while we...
In this week's Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast Guy Henderson is subjected to Richard Hughes' childish theme tune antics as he labours the Lewis Collins joke for another week. Don't worry, he will get bored of it soon. After the winger signed for Torquay last week, the hardly-dynamic duo muse over the quality of Gary Johnson's squad for the National League South season, and once again they look at some more of the teams that the Gulls will be coming up against - including the two nearest rivals. There is more friendly news, some congratulations for the Hammers, and banter about hummus to co...
