Beacon Heath, Exeter fire: woman missing

89-year-old unaccounted for

A pensioner is missing following a fire at a house in Exeter.

Emergency services worked through the night on a fire at a property at a single-storey home in Beacon Heath which broke out in the early hours.

Fire crews were alerted at 1.05 a.m. when smoke and flames were seen issuing from the building.

Two fire crews from the central Exeter station Danes Castle. two from Middlemoor, two from Clyst St George, Honiton, two from Crediton and special operations unit from Exeter have been on the scene.

By 8.35 a.m, one appliance still in attendance dampening down hotspots and making sure the fire does not reignite.

Twelve hours after the fire started, a statement from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "Extensive fire damage has been caused to the property and the building assessed as unsafe to enter at this time.

"An 89-year-old female resident remains unaccounted for and a police cordon remains in place. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident."

Police says there are no suspicious circumstances at this time.
