Exeter hospitality businesses start to suffer again

VIDEO: covid cancellations reported

Whilst covid-19 infection rates in the south west remain below national average, Exeter stands alone in the region as a coronavirus hotspot.

In Devon and Cornwall, 1,369 cases were reported in the week to Thursday 8 October, up from 381 the week before. Whilst the rise looks dramatic, some is down to misreporting by Public Health England, which is claimed to be because of too much data on a spreadsheet.

In Exeter, many businesses in the hospitality sector in the city are nervous about the weeks ahead, says Exeter Chamber of Commerce director Yvan Williams, who owns The Oddfellows in the city centre. They're seeing some bookings cancelled as more people become concerned about the rise in infection rates.

The short report here is from BBC Spotlight.
