A teenager has been left with a broken jaw after being assaulted during a robbery near Totnes.

The 18-year-old was assaulted by a group of males around 6:45pm on Sunday on the Dartington estate near the town..

The victim and three friends were walking towards the river when they were approached by the group in a black BMW.

Detective constable Rich Jones, from Newton Abbot's police station, said: “The man was then assaulted by three or four male occupants of the car, causing him significant injuries requiring hospitalisation and surgery.

“The attack on the victim stopped after a short time and members of the public who were nearby came to the aid of the victim and his friends.

“We believe that there were a number of potential witnesses to this attack and that they may be able to provide evidence to police.”

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of robbery.  A 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man from Totnes, and a 17-year-old boy from Newton Abbot have been released on police bail, pending further enquiries, until Friday 30 April.
