Local church leaders are fasting today to raise awareness of food poverty.
It's part of a national day of action to highlight injustices in the benefits system, coupled with low wages, which have led to a steep increase in the numbers of people having to rely on food banks.
In Exeter the food bank used to give emergency supplies to just four people a week in 2008 - now up to 80 a week are qualifying for its help.
The Exeter Quakers say they want the Government to review the benefits system - but they also want local employers to start paying the Living Wage of a minimum £7.65 per hour.
