Is this England’s favourite conservation area?
An area of Tiverton has been shortlisted in a national competition to find England’s favourite conservation area.
Tiverton’s Civic Society, with support from Mid Devon District Council, entered the competition run by Civic Voice and is now looking for support from the Mid Devon community as the final approaches.
The civic society entered Tiverton Conservation Area, which includes much of the town centre and West Exe, in the competition and has recently learnt it has been shortlisted to the final 18, from a total of 249 nominations.
Jeremy Salter, from the Tiverton Civic Society, said: “Working together with Mid Devon District Council, Tiverton Town Council and other organisations, such as the Tiverton Museum, Tiverton Civic Society has done much to raise awareness of this area, erecting information boards, setting medallions into pavements, publishing leaflets, and running guided walks etc.
“Now we need as many people as possible to vote for the Tiverton Conservation Area over the next couple of weeks, and everyone is eligible to vote. To date we have received 275 votes but the opposition is formidable and we need a great number more if we are to do well!”
The winner will be announced at an event in Birmingham on October 19th.
