Person in hospital after Torquay fire

Electrical fault leads to evacuation

Four fire engines from Torquay and Paignton have been at a blaze in the basement of a three-storey property in Lower Woodfield Road, Torquay on Wednesday morning.

People were evacuated from the premises after a fire started in an electrical fuse board around 9.20 a.m. Western Power made the electrics safe.

The fire was extinguished by four breathing apparatus wearers using two attack jets, one covering jet, three CO2 extinguishers, two thermal imaging cameras and a positive pressure ventilation fan  to clear the property of smoke. Approx two square metres of damage was caused. The cause was accidental.

One person was taken to hospital suffering with minor smoke inhalation.
