The road has reopened after more than 10 hours.
The A38 is now open in both directions between Chudleigh and Drum Bridges.
The crash happened at around 2.45am this morning (Thursday 25th July) and involved a single motorbike.
The rider, a man in his 30s, died at the scene. His family have been told.
Earlier an Inspector at the scene tweeted to ask people to pay attention to the road when passing the scene, adding it was "disrespectful" to have "a good look".
