Man detained for Nazi state
Police in Plymouth arrested a man at a protest over the weekend. He was allegedly making Nazi salutes.
Two loud groups faced off in Plymouth city centre along Royal Parade on Saturday afternoon (20 September) over flags on public property.
This was the third protest of its kind by Flag Force Plymouth, and a counter-protest by Plymouth Anti-Fascists also took place.
Plymouth City Council says that flying flags on public property is a safety risk and a misuse of public space.
More than 220 people protested, arguing the council shouldn't remove the Union Jack and St. George's Cross from lampposts and roundabouts, as they see it as patriotic.
A small number of people were dispersed from the area under a Section 35 order, used to prevent antisocial behaviour.
An individual in his 50s was detained detained suspicion of committing a public order offence and has been bailed pending further inquiries.
Apart from the one incident, officers said the evening passed without issue.
