Child expected to recover
A woman has been charged with the attempted murder of a child in Torquay.
Emergency services were called just before 4 p.m. on Friday following reports of the child suffering serious injuries in an incident at a property in the Shiphay area of the town.
The child was initially taken to Torbay District Hospital and remains in hospital following surgery but is expected to make a full recovery.
Emma Thompson aged 47 from Bench Tor Close, Torquay, has been charged with attempted murder and actual bodily harm in relation to a second assault on another child on the same day.
She remains in police custody and is due before Plymouth Magistrates Court on Monday 20 December.
