Man taken to hospital after careering off road
The driver of a small car was taken to hospital on Wednesday afternoon after being cut out of his vehicle after driving it over an embankment of the old Barnstaple to Exeter Road.
Emergency services were called around 3.20 p.m. after reports that a car had left the A377 at Kingford, just south of Umberleigh. Two fire engines from Chulmleigh and Barnstaple, along with A rescue tender from Middlemoor, an ambulance and the police.
A man was trapped inside his car, seven metres (21 feet) down the embankment. The passenger and driver airbags had deployed. Fire crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to get him out. Paramedics took him to hospital and the scene was left in the hands of the police.
The man's condition or identity hasn't been revealed.
