Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw says Ofsted may need to investigate the running of Exeter's largest school.
It follows recent revelations that West Exe Technology College head teacher Steve Maddern earns more than £150,000 a year.
Devon's Education Chief Christine Channon has already expressed her surprise at Mr Maddern's salary, particularly in relation to other local head teachers and a national average of just £55,000.
Mr Maddern's salary was set by the West Exe governors, and Mr Bradshaw says it may be time for Ofsted to step in.
In recent weeks the Chair of the school's Governors, Paul Smith, has resigned.
No-one from the school has been available for interview.
