Plans to build a controversial student village on the University of Exeter campus have been given the go ahead despite hundreds of objections from local residents.
Tower blocks for student accommodation will now be built on the East Park area of the University of Exeter campus, after the city council voted 6 - 3 in favour of the plans last night.
The original proposals were amended after a decision to grant planning permission was deferred at a meeting in February following opposition from local residents.
The number of buildings was scaled down by two, and the height of the blocks reduced to three storeys.
But despite the changes to the planning application, 408 objections were received, but it wasn't enough and councillors voted in favour of the multi-storey blocks that will house more than 1,200 students on campus.
