Devon's child protection services are being defended by the county council, following a critical report by OFSTED. The regulator branded the services as 'inadequate', the lowest of four rankings.
The council says it's already taking steps to tackle a number of issues, and had already begun making other improvements before the unannounced inspection, which have yet to start taking effect.
The council is emphasising that the inspectors didn't report that ANY child was at risk of immediate harm... and that the main criticism was that written records of work in the field could be better.
