Ways to reduce spending on Devon's highways and traffic management by nearly seven million pounds are being explored by the county council.
It's in response to Government funding cuts in the next financial year.
Among the proposals are reducing some highway drainage and clearance work, and not renewing non-essential road markings unless there's a safety issue.
Repairs to faulty street lighting could also be reduced, with the contractor only having to mend them if two or more adjacent lights in a street went out.
