Upottery played an important part in transporting American paratroopers to the beaches of Normandy.
More than 1,357 men left the airfield on June 5th 1944 to the beach, code-named Utah.
It was also the departure field for the men of ‘Easy Company’ parachute regiment, featured in the TV series Band of Brothers.
Wednesday's vigil starts at 9.30pm.
