Devon Chamber welcomes new CEO, Helen Wylde-Archibald this month. A proud South West native, she returned to the region after years away and now sees a county brimming with opportunity.

Speaking to Radio Exe she said: “There are unprecedented opportunities in Devon right now"

With exceptional investment and innovation across the region, we can offer our young people the chance to build fantastic careers here without having to leave.”

Helen’s passion for retaining local talent is clear, coinciding with the Devon Chamber initiative ans said: “From a huge range of apprenticeships across the county, to cutting-edge research in marine and defence, Devon’s educational institutions are laying the groundwork for a highly skilled workforce. We have all the tools to grow our own talent.

Combine this with a strong culture of entrepreneurship and we’re also seeing people take bold steps to start businesses early in life.”

The Chamber’s role in this ecosystem is vital. “We’re here to connect businesses, support them through challenges, and lobby for investment,” she said. “Whether you’re a sole trader or a large enterprise, we want to make sure Devon is on the map and top of the list when people think about where to invest.”

One of the Chamber’s flagship events, the Devon Business Show, returns to the Plymouth Life Centre today [Wednesday 15th October]. With over 115 exhibitors, the show delivers networking, innovation, and inspiration.

Helen said, “It’s a chance to meet new clients, discover suppliers, and see the incredible talent and creativity Devon has to offer.”

This year’s theme, Growth, Innovation and Purpose, reflects the Chamber’s broader mission. From showcasing ESG initiatives to promoting social value and sustainable practices, the event is designed to spark meaningful conversations and collaborations.

“We’re lucky to live in such a beautiful place,” she added. “But we need to treat it with respect and build businesses that reflect that.”

The show is free to attend and open to all. Visitors can register online at devonchamber.co.uk/devon-business-show.
