Independent police investigators informed
Devon & Cornwall Police have informed the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following the death of a woman in Plymouth this weekend.
The woman from Plymouth was arrested and taken into Charles Cross Police Custody during the afternoon on Friday 3 July.
Later that afternoon she suffered a medical episode and Custody staff and the Health Care Practitioner immediately attended and administered emergency treatment.
An ambulance attended and the woman was taken to the Derriford Hospital in a serious but stable condition; her next of kin were informed of this development.
Police have since been informed by Derriford that the woman was pronounced dead late am on Saturday 4 July.
A family liaison officer has been appointed. The Force have informed the IOPC as is mandatory in any case such as this and enquiries led by Devon and Cornwall Police continue
