Lucky Luther suffers only hurt paw in frightening drop onto beach
A half German Pointer, half Hungarian Vizsla has survived after a massive drop from cliffs overlooking Lyme Bay at Exmouth.
Not everyone who topples from Orcombe Point survives, so when Luther fell from the edge on Saturday lunchtime, owners Philippa and Michael must have thought the worst.
They called 999 and asked for the coastguard. Scrambling Exmouth's inshore lifeboat, the RNLI then made it to the nearby cliffs within four minutes.
The crew brought Luther back to the lifeboat station and attended to the damaged paw.
The RNLI says Philippa and Michael did the right thing in calling 999 and not attempting a rescue themselves. They're reminding owners to keep dogs on leads near cliffs.
