Bomb disposal expert Chris Hunter says this was clearly an unstable device. Buried under Exeter soil since the blitz of 1942, there was always a chance it would still detonate.
It did - but the services did their duty and did it well.
No one was hurt in a blast that was heard for miles - in an explosion that led to mass evacuation at a time of a pandemic.
