Boy's death "desperately sad"
Police say a body found on Exmouth beach last month was a 16-year-old local boy.
They were called at around 6.20am on Saturday 22 August with reports of a body near Orcombe Point, to the west of the town's sandy beach.
The teenager was declared deceased at the scene by emergency services.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
Devon and Cornwall Police say: "This is a desperately sad and tragic incident for everyone involved and our thoughts are with the boy’s family and friends at this difficult time."
