Helmsman Roger Jackson has been presented with the Lady Swaythling Trophy at the Shipwrecked Mariners Society's annual Skill and Gallantry awards.
He and his crew Andrew Williams and Max Champion braved four-metre waves to rescue the men, whose inflatable dinghy had capsized in atrocious weather conditions.
They were found clinging to the wreckage of their boat - three of them had no lifejackets.
Roger says the conditions were so dangerous that they could all have lost their lives.
He's urging anyone going to sea to take basic safety precautions - not only for their own sake but also for the sake of others who might have to risk their lives rescuing them if they get into difficulties.
