Fire crews tackle lithium-ion battery blaze

It caught fire in the back of a bin lorry

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze in Plymouth believed to have been started by a lithium-ion battery.

Emergency services were called to Bath Street near Plymouth Pavilions at 09:25 on Friday 4 October where a recycling lorry had caught fire.

The blaze was in the rubbish compartment of the lorry.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said Hose reel jets, a safety jet and thermal imaging cameras used to cool the source of the fire and prevent reignition.

The blaze has been extinguished.
