Exmouth's lifeboat crews have led a dramatic rescue operation off Budleigh - after a powerboat broke down and began sinking.
All four occupants including a 13 year old child were in the water when the two lifeboats reached them yesterday afternoon.
They were plucked out of the sea with a special piece of equipment on the Shannon class lifeboat, and had medical treatment once ashore for swallowing sea water.
An RNLI spokesman said the outcome could have been very different if it hadn't been for the speed of the Shannon lifeboat reaching them, and the efficiency of the lifting equipment.
